After the difficult breakup of a love affair, Kate Kennedy moves to a remote
corner of Essex, England, to write a biography of Lord Byron. However, the
son of Kate's landlord resents her presence and tries to frighten her off
with tales of ghosts in her house. Meanwhile, her neighbor's teenage
daughter unearths an old roman grave site. Kate tries to ignore the
excavation and she dismisses her landlord's sons warnings of ghosts, but
soon Kate is tormented by a virus invading her computer, mysterious noises
and other disturbances. Kate learns that the ghosts are an ancient roman,
Marcus Severus, and his wife, Claudia. As she investigates events that
occurred centuries before, Kate learns that Marcus Severus will do anything
to hide the evil that he did during his lifetime, and Claudia will do
anything to expose it.
Strong language, violence, and some descriptions of sex.
The life-long battle between good and evil, love and hate, the past and the
present is shown in this gripping novel. With her eye for historical
detail, Barbara Erskine brings another tale of a haunting pair of lovers.
I found myself looking over my shoulder, double checking the locks on the
doors and putting this book down for a while. But not for long, I just had
to know what was going to happen next. I really loved this one. I give it
a big 5 out of 5.
Happy reading,
